The recent foreign and health policy decisions of the United States show that there will be massive changes in international cooperation. Until now, 23% of global investments in health have come from the U.S.
In relation to the U.S. population and economy, this share is not particularly outstanding, but if it disappears, the impact will be noticeable. The development agency USAID is in the process of being dissolved. Some projects of the Hôpital Albert Schweitzer in Haiti, not related to SPHASH, have so far been financed with USAID funds.
The projects and programs of SPHASH are in no way dependent on USAID and will not be affected. We can continue to implement them as planned and without external influence, also in the future. However, we must take into account that U.S. political decisions will have an impact on the health situation of the people in the Artibonite Valley. The work that can be carried out at HAS thanks to the projects of SPHASH for the benefit of the local population is more important today than ever!
