Trauma Surgery (2010 – 2019)

Earthquake Relief Center

Following the earthquake in January 2010 with its epicenter near the capital Port-au-Prince, which claimed 300,000 lives and injured just as many people, the trauma surgery department at HAS was very successful in treating over 1,300 injured people. A large proportion of whom suffered open bone fractures. The Canton of Zug contributed a total of CHF 600,000 for trauma surgery over three years. The project was completed at the end of 2014 with far-reaching positive effects. The AVINA Foundation then supported the successor Swiss Trauma Surgery Project until 2019. In addition to the purchase of surgical equipment, the training and further education of the surgical and anesthesia team was promoted in particular.
