Goal: HAS is basically powered by ecological solar energy and saves costs. The amount released goes directly to the patients
From 2014, thanks to generous donations and the voluntary technical commitment of an international team of solar engineers, it was possible to replace the expensive diesel generators at HAS with abundant solar energy. Since then, the generators have only been needed as a backup, saving an average of USD 200,000 a year, which in turn is used for the health of the patients.
Most of Haiti’s Artibonite Valley, including HAS, still has no state electricity supply. Electricity was produced at HAS by generators that consumed more than USD 350,000 worth of diesel annually to supply the hospital and campus. The Thomi family foundation spontaneously decided to finance our large-scale solar project. The PV roof system and a battery system for grid stabilization and CO2-free power supply for the hospital and the village were installed in three phases. The money saved in this way can now be used for medical purposes.
In 2019, the HAS Haiti solar project received the Swiss Solar Prize.
