Social Service

Goal: Medical and household costs of at-risk groups in the valley are covered and their access is secured
Target group: Particularly at-risk groups in the Artibonite catchment area
Milestones: Reach expanded from a few thousand at the beginning to over 13,560 beneficiaries today

An evaluation at the beginning of the 2000s revealed that sick people, particularly from the mountains, were often unable to pay the low fees for medical treatment and medication at the hospital. As a result, these people did not even visit the hospital to receive the necessary treatment. To counter this, the social service, which has been affiliated with HAS since 2004, covers the treatment costs of particularly at-risk groups. Families with malnourished children are also provided with wholesome food free of charge.

The goal is to ensure access to medical care for those most affected by poverty and to cover their household healthcare costs. What began with just a few thousand beneficiaries has now expanded to reach over 13,560 people.

With an annual budget of at least USD 120,000, covered by donations from private individuals, this project ensures that thousands of people, especially children from the barren mountains, receive important medical treatment in time and grow up strong and healthy thanks to rich nutrition.
